Cultural Placement Support

Commencement: The program begins when a child or young person is on a 28-day Court Assessment Order.

Age Group: 12 – 18 years

Duration: The program runs for 18 weeks with 16-weeks placement support and a 2 week on country program facilitated in various communities across Queensland.

Program Overview:

The Care and Connect Services Cultural Placement Support program addresses the diverse personal, developmental and cultural needs by utilising high quality facilitation by highly experienced and skilled team of cultural practitioners. The flexible and responsive program is delivered working in partnership with key stakeholders and in collaboration with community cultural facilitators and elders to address the needs of the individual Young People.

Program Objectives:

Child-focused, culturally responsive, engaging activities and interventions that improve the health and wellbeing of children and communities.

• Trust and rapport building to create a culturally safe and pro-social environment utilising strengths-based and approaches to enhance protective factors.
• Cultural support and mentorship by highly skilled and respected, cultural facilitators to understand the child’s needs and vulnerabilities to help facilitate change.
• Positive cultural experiences and opportunities to explore issues of cultural identity to build self-esteem and enhance psychological and physical wellbeing.

Program Outcomes:

‍Promotes wellbeing, resilience, and empowerment to express and develop on their hopes and dreams.

• Create meaningful connections to culture and community through targeted facilitation.
• Young People develop autonomy and build new skills, self-efficacy, and self-determination.
• Build skills and capacity to overcome personal, social, and systemic barriers to access mainstream / statutory services and build self-confidence.

‍Ongoing support to partnering and statutory agencies to build cultural capacity around developing a deeper understanding.
